Things I Have Learned... from Rams vs. Cardinals

Things I Have Learned... from Rams vs. Cardinals. St. Louis goes against the former St. Louis Team with their former QB.

The Counselor is IN:

1) QB Kurt Warner is still a solid starting QuarterBack. He does require protection to keep him from receiving more concussions. The Cardinals have adjusted to his style and are running the spread formation well. He will be pushing Leinart for the starting job.

2) The Rams continue to be aggressive in their play calling. Sometimes they are too aggressive like 4th and 4 on the 40 yard line.

3) Cardinal CB Antrel Rolle is a heck of a defensive back. What a run back he had in the second quarter for a TD. He had another interception return for over 50 yards.

4) The offensive line for the Rams continues to haunt them. For some reason, I am having a craving for Swiss Cheese.

5) WR Larry Fitzgerald has developed into the stud wide receiver that the Cardinals expected him to become. Bodlin is a wonderful receiver on the other side. They remind me of a younger version of Holt and Bruce. The dynamic duo are both young and should be a nightmare for opposing defenses for years to come.

6) WR Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce are still a great receiving tandem. They need their QB to have time to get them the ball. They should be back with better numbers next year.

7) RB Edgerrin James still can make some moves and create some excitement. It does appear that tread is receding on the tires but they are not bald yet. His career can be extended if they could find a second back to split carries with him.

8) Rams CB Oshiomogho Atogwe is the star of the Rams defense. He had a couple of interceptions with one for a 52 yard score. The return was not as elegant of a return as Rolle's but it was very effective.

Those are a few things I learned from the Rams vs. the Cardinals game.

Why I hate the 2007 Patriots!

The Counselor is IN:

The 2007 Patriots are a great team. They just accomplished an undefeated regular season. Congratulations to them. They have been exciting to watch.

In the past, I have appreciated them as a classy organization. This year, I hate this team. Even though they are a great team, I still hate the fact that they have continued to win. Here are my reasons why I can not stand them this year.

1) Spygate- A team that prides itself on winning the right way should not need to cheat to win. This was not a one time incident. Many other teams have complained of the Patriots inappropriately videotaping on the sidelines over the last couple of years.

2) Lack of Personal responsibility with Spygate- When caught doing something wrong, no-one stepped forward and took responsibility. Hey Bill, be a man and admit when you are wrong!

3) Smugness of players and coaches- Every interview I have seen with members of the Patriots, leaves distaste in my mouth. They act like an undefeated season was owed to them.

4) All of the early talk about an undefeated season- This is not the Patriots' fault. The talking heads had crowned them 19-0 after they won their 5th game. I grew weary of this quickly.

5) Overshadowing my Cowboys- The Dallas Cowboys are 13-2. They have had a great season. The talking heads should be discussing how good my Cowboys are but instead they only want to discuss these Patriots. Also the Patriots gave my team one of their losses.

6) The Swami and the Tuna comparing great teams- ESPN has been leading the hype of this team. They have Parcells and Berman not only comparing this Patriots team to the great teams of the past but discussing how this team would beat all of those teams except the 78 Steelers. Crazy talk!

The Patriots' Due

The Counselor is IN:

It is time for me to give the Patriots their due.

Several weeks ago the talking heads started declaring the Patriots the greatest team ever. There were discussions of a 19-0 season. I lambasted the commentators for crowning the Patriots before half the season was over.

Now the Patriots are 13-0. They have had a few close games but have always came out on top. They are the only team to beat my Cowboys. I give the Patriots my respect and honor. They are the best team in football at this time. I hope they meet up with my Cowboys in the Superbowl and give my Boys a chance to pay them back with a loss.

The Counselor is OUT:

The Weekly Thermometer- 12-11-07

This is a look at the fantasy temperature of who is hot, cold, and lukewarm. We will examine a few players in each temperature range each week.

The Counselor is IN:

Who is Hot?
QB Tom Brady is blazing hot. He continues to be on pace to break the single season touchdown record. He was 32 of 46 for 399 yards. He added another 4 touchdowns.

TE Jason Witten is red hot. He had 15 receptions for 138 yards. He did have a costly fumble but made up for it at the end of the game. He continues to have a great year for the Cowboys. Many pre-season rankings did not have him as a top 5 TE. He has proved them wrong while being a huge asset to the Cowboys.

RB Selvin Young is smoking hot. He had 17 carries for 156 yards. He is another stud Denver Runningback.

Who is Lukewarm?
Dallas Defense was very lukewarm this last week. They gave up 248 yards through the air and 152 yards on the ground with 3 touchdowns. They bent but did not break at the end of the game to keep them off the Cold list. The Defense will need to step up for the Cowboys to live up to Superbowl expectations.

QB Philip Rivers was lukewarm. He went 21 of 40 for 228 yards. He had 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

WR Steve Smith was lukewarm. He had 6 receptions for 44 yards. The injuries to Quarterback have caused Smith to have a down year after being drafted as a top 5 fantasy Wide Receiver.

Who is Cold?
QB Vince Young is cold as ice. He went 13 of 21 for 121 yards. He also had 2 rushing attempts for 2 yards.

RB
DeAngelo Williams is quite chilly. He had 3 carries for 7 yards. Williams was trendy fantasy pick that has not panned out.

RB Laurence Maroney is frosty. He rushed 8 times for 18 yards on Sunday. The Patriots continue to win without much of a running game. Will this cause them problems in January?

Things I Have Learned... from Falcons vs. Saints

Things I Have Learned... from Falcons vs. Saints. These are two teams that I have not covered this season.

The Counselor is IN:

1) New Orleans Coach Sean Payton is not afraid to take chances. He is very aggressive. Sometimes he is not very smart about when to be aggressive.

2) QB Chris Redman appears to be a good QB for the Falcons at this time. He made some really nice plays. They have a lot of needs on this team.

3) QB Drew Brees appears to be back to Pro Bowl level. He is a level headed quarterback than can make some plays with his arm and legs. He had over a 116 QB Rating tonight.

4) Atlanta's Owner Arthur Blank appears to be a class act. He was great when asked about the Michael Vick prison sentence. I loved how he discussed his team and his commitment to it.

5) WR David Patton is much better a wide receiver than I thought. He had a great night.

6) The Falcons do not appear to have a rushing game. Warrick Dunn is in the twilight of his career. Jervious Norwood has not lived up to his preseason hype.

7) WR Marques Colston is a stud in the red zone. This second year wide receiver is the main threat near the goal line for the Saints.

Those are a few things I learned from the Falcons vs. theSaints game.

What it'll take for the Patriots to Lose- Top 10 List

The Counselor is IN:

Pete McEntegart has an entertaining top 10 list about What it'll take for the Patriots to Lose on FanNation. If you have not checked out Pete or FanNation, then you are missing out. With Pete's permission, I will post his enjoyable article below.

After watching the Patriots' Houdini act to escape last night against the Ravens and keep their quest for a perfect season alive, it's reasonable to ask: What in the world does a team have to do to beat New England? Stab a wooden stake through its collective heart? Fortunately, the 10 Spot has the answers. Here are the top 10 things it will take for the Patriots to lose:

10. Have opposing cheerleaders stretch inside Patriots locker room

9. Super Bowl berths decided by BCS

8. An act of God, and by "God" we obviously mean Brett Favre

7. Convince Randy Moss that Tom Brady is dissing him behind his back

6. Remind karma that Boston's won enough this year

5. Separately invite Gisele and Bridget Moynahan to the game, seat them together; cat fight!

4. Replace secret video of opponent's signals with director's cut of Gigli

3. Deduct a touchdown from any team whose coach looks homeless

2. Force Rodney Harrison to share his HGH with opponents

1. Don't throw a flag every time the Pats fail on fourth down

The Weekly Thermometer- 12-04-07

This is a look at the fantasy temperature of who is hot, cold, and lukewarm. We will examine a few players in each temperature range each week.

The Counselor is IN:

Who is Hot?
QB Tony Romo (homer pick) is hot as lava. He went 19 for 30 with 309 yards and 4 touchdowns. He continues to lead the 11-1 Cowboys.

WR Andre Johnson is steaming hot. Since returning from injury, he has been warming up. He went 9 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown.

RB LaDainian Tomlinson is supernova hot. He had 23 carries for 177 yards with 2 touchdowns. He started the year slowing but has now come on and to play like the first over all fantasy pick, which he was in most fantasy drafts.

Who is Lukewarm?
RB Marion Barber III is very lukewarm. He went 17 carries for 81 yards and a 4.8 yards per carry.

QB Vinny Testaverde is lukewarm. He has only been out of retirement for a short time. He went 17 completions for 26 attempts and 169 yards. He had two touchdowns and two interceptions.

RB Frank Gore is lukewarm. He had 12 carries for 58 yards.

Who is Cold?
RB Warrick Dunn is cold as ice. He lost his starting job and did not do much to win it back. He rushed 10 times and for 17 yards.

RB
Jesse Chatman is as cold as an iceberg. He went 11 for 26 yards. The whole Dolphins team is chilly.

RB Clinton Portis is freezer burnt. He rushed 25 times for 50 yards on Sunday.

Things I Have Learned... from Bengals vs. Steelers

Things I Have Learned... from Bengals vs. Steelers

The Counselor is IN:

1) I never realized that there is swamp land in Pennsylvania (called Hines Field) until last Monday's game followed by tonight's game.

2) Cincinnati's offense is better since WR Chris Henry has come back from suspension. Three really good wide receivers are better than just two.

3) WR Hines Ward is a workhorse receiver. He does not appear to be the most talented WR on the field but he is a player that will do anything to help his team win. He fits in well with the Steelers' blue collar mentality.

4) Bad weather severely affects the passing game of the Bengals. The wet ball kept flying on Palmer and the talent receiving corp could not hang on.

5) QB Ben Roethlisberger is a very solid QB. He has not moved into elite status yet but will if he continues to develop as a QB. He is truly the leader of the Steelers.

6) The Steelers' Defense can be dominate. They make third and long almost impossible for an offense.

7) Fast Willie Parker is a bust as a first round fantasy pick. He does not touch the ball enough to warrant that first round pick. Plus he is having trouble holding onto the ball.

8) The Steelers have become a pass first offense. Their offensive philosophy used to be run first then pass but not any longer.

Those are a few things I learned from the Bengals vs. Steelers game.
