The Weekly Thermometer- 11-27-07

This is a look at the fantasy temperature of who is hot, cold, and lukewarm. We will examine a few players in each temperature range each week.

The Counselor is IN:

Who is Hot?

Rookie Running Back Kolby Smith is red hot coming off of his first start for the Chiefs. He had 31 carries for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns. Not a bad first start.

The Dallas Defense is steaming hot. They held the Jets to just a field goal and just over 200 yards of offense. The Jets were held to just 60 yards rushing.

WR Chad Johnson is the hot receiver of the week. He has been cold most of the year but Week 12 he heated it up with 3 touchdowns and 12 receptions for 102 receiving yards.

Bonus-College Football* Mizzou Tigers are red hot. They are ranked #1 for the first time since 1960. They are set for a re-match with the Sooners, who gave Mizzou their only loss. If they can win this game, they will play for the National Championship.

Who is Lukewarm?

RB Rudi Johnson is lukewarm. He managed 88 yards on 25 carries and averaged only 3.5 yards per carry.

RB Clinton Portis is also lukewarm. He had 20 carries and 68 yards with an average of 3.4 yards per carry.

QB Ben Roethlisberger had a mediocre week. He was knee deep in a quagmire called Hines Field. He was 18 for 21 but for only 165 yards.

Who is Cold?

RB Lendale White had a chilly week. After having a hot October, his November has cooled off drastically. He managed only 8 carries for 27 yards.

WR Braylon Edwards also had a smokin' hot October but has chilled in November. He only had 4 catches for 57 yards.

QB Eli Manning is cold as ice. 4 interceptions this week took him from lukewarm to frigid. The Giants have to be disappointed with this performance and his lack of progress this year.

Things I have Learned... from Bears vs. Broncos

Things I Have Learned... from Bears vs. Broncos

The Counselor is IN:

1) Denver continues to put backup runningbacks on the field that achieve well. With starter Travis Henry and backup Selvin Young inactive, the Broncos turned to undrafted Andre Hall. Hall did not miss a beat. He was even on the same page with Cutler when he ran the Option. If he continues to start, he could become a stud.

2) RB Cedric Benson was finally looking good for the Bears. This was right before he was charted off the field with an injury. Hopefully it is not serious but it looked really bad.

3) KR/PR Devin Hester continues to be the bright spot for Chicago. He had two stellar returns during this game. He is an exciting player to watch. The returns sank one of my fantasy teams on Sunday. Thanks for kicking to him- Denver- NOT!

4) QB Jay Cutler continues to grow and develop as a quarterback. He is very sporadic at times but does appear to have some good instincts and cannon for an arm. Cutler did under throw a lot of balls on Sunday. But he is good at hiding the play action pass. He did throw a couple of good long balls, with one going for a touchdown. With another year of development, Cutler may grow into a top level QB.

5) Rex Grossman continues to disappoint. He had a good game last week. He looked like the old Grossman most of today until his last minute heroics in this game. At the end of the game, he looked like he the QB that Chicago was hoping for when they drafted him. I believe that the Bears are tired of waiting for Grossman to become that QB consistently. After watching this game, I am convinced that the Bears will either draft a QB early, trade for one (possibly from Cleveland or Philly) or will get a good QB in free agency.

6) Brandon Marshall is a good young Wideout for Denver. He is a great target for Cutler. He is developing a great rapport with him. As long as both continue to develop, they will be teammates for a long time.

7) Playing at Chicago after Thanksgiving is not fun for opponents. The field was slick and nasty and will only get worse as the year goes along.

Those are a few things I learned from the Bears vs. the Broncos game.

Week 12 Fantasy Injury Report- Weekend Edition

The Counselor is IN:

Here are the Week 12 fantasy injuries and my commentary. This is the Weekend Edition.

WR Larry Fitzgerald
is probable with some minor bumps and bruises. Fitzgerald will play on Sunday. He is a good start.

QB Kurt Warner is probable with a banged up left elbow. He has practiced all week and will play on Sunday.

Falcons:
RB Jerious Norwood
is probable with an ankle sprain. He barely played on Sunday. He is still playing second fiddle to Dunn.

QB Bryon Leftwich has an ankle injury and is probable. The Falcons have decided to start Harrington this week. Their QB position will remain a Merry Go Round. I would avoid their QB's like the plague.

WR Joe Horne is questionable with a hamstring injury. He missed practice on Tuesday. He will be a game time decision. The signs are pointing to him missing Thursday's game. I would keep him on the bench.

Ravens:
TE Daniel Wilcox
is questionable with a foot/ankle injury. He continues to miss games. He is not a safe start and has minimal value when he does.

TE Todd Heap is doubtful for Sunday's game with a hamstring injury. He did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday. He is one of the best fantasy TE in the past has been out with injuries most of this year.

Bills:
RB Marshawn Lynch
is out with an ankle injury. Lynch will miss week 12.

Panthers:
WR Steve Smith
is probable with an ankle injury. He is likely to play this weekend.

QB Vinny Testaverde is questionable with back stiffness. He was supposed to start this week. He reported back stiffness on Saturday morning.

RB DeShaun Foster is probable with turf toe. He practiced on Thursday and Friday.

Bears:
WR Bernard Berrian
is probable with a toe injury. He practiced Friday but not earlier in the week.

Bengals:
WR TJ Houshmandzadeh
is probable with a back injury. He practiced on Friday and he is expected to play on Sunday.

Browns:
No significant fantasy injuries.

Cowboys:
WR Isaiah Stanback
appears to be active for Thursday Game. He could see an increase in his role with Crayton's injury.

WR Patrick Crayton is Questionable with a sprained ankle. He missed practice on Tuesday. It is a good chance he will not play on Thursday. Look for Hurd to start if Crayton can not play.

Broncos:
RB Travis Henry
is out with a partial tear of the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He has been ruled out for Sunday's game.

RB Selvin Young is questionable with a knee injury. He obtained the injury Monday night but was able to come back into the game. He did not practice early in the week. He was limited in practice on Friday. He is considered to be a game time decision.

WR Javon Walker is questionable with a knee injury. He is expected to start practice this week. He is hopeful that he will be able to play on Sunday. I would remain cautious of Walker until he demonstrates that he can play. He practiced only partially on Friday.

No significant fantasy injuries
. This is good news for the Lions who play on Thursday.

WR Koren Robinson
is probable with a knee injury. He missed practice on Tuesday. He should be able to play on Thanksgiving.

RB Ryan Grant has a mild sprained ankle and is questionable. He is considered day to day. He was limited in practice on Tuesday.

Texans:
RB Ahman Green
is out with a knee injury. I would keep him on the bench even after he is back.

RB Ron Dayne is listed as probable for this week. All signs point to him not only playing but starting with Green out.

Colts:
WR Marvin Harrison
is questionable with a knee injury. He was limited in practice on Tuesday. He remains a game time decision.

WR Anthony Gonzalez is questionable for this week with a hand injury. He was able to practice on Tuesday. He is likely to play on Thursday.

WR Aaron Moorehead obtained a back injury and was placed on the Injured Reserves. Colts are depleting their receiving corp.

Jaguars:
WR Reggie Williams
has a back strain and is questionable for this week. He did not practice on Friday but is expected to practice on Sunday.

RB Fred Taylor is probable with a thigh injury. Ole Glass Legs Taylor has been fairly healthy this year. I expect he will share time with Jones-Drew.

Chiefs:
RB Larry Johnson
is out with a foot injury. The amount of his carries from the last 3 years have come back to haunt him.

RB Priest Holmes retired from the NFL on Wednesday. This is very sad since Priest looked fairly good on Sunday before the injury.

Dolphins:
RB Jessie Chatman
is questionable with a left ankle injury. He was limping on Wednesday. He has been limited in practice all week. He is not a good start against the Steelers on Monday night, even if he was healthy.

Vikings:
RB Adrian Peterson
is questionable with a sprained right LCL. He should be back in a few weeks. There were a lot of fantasy owners relieved by the diagnosis rather than a torn ACL. I believe the Vikings will let Peterson continue to recover this week even if he is well enough to play. Taylor played well in his absence last weekend.

Saints:
RB Reggie Bush
is questionable with bruised shin. He did not practice on Friday. He is a game time decision.

Patriots:
RB Laurence Maroney
is probable with a foot injury. The Patriots are being very cryptic about this injury.

QB Tom Brady
has a right shoulder strain. He was limited in practice on Friday. Brady was listed as probable all last season. I don't believe for a moment that he will miss this weekend's game.

is out with a hamstring injury. He will not play on Sunday. This is bad news for the Giants.

WR Steve Smith is out with a hamstring injury. His shoulder is finally healed but now he is struggling with a hamstring injury.

WR Plaxico Burress
is questionable with an ankle injury. He did not practice all week. Burress is a warrior and usually plays through injuries. That said, I would bench him if you have a good back up. If not, wait for the game time decision.

RB Derrick Ward has a groin injury and is questionable for this week. He continues to miss practice and games. The Giants appear short on Runningbacks.

Jets:
WR Laveranues Coles
had an ankle injury and is questionable for Thanksgiving. He was limited in practice on Tuesday. It does not look positive for him to play on Thursday.

Raiders:
WR Jerry Porter
is probable with a knee injury. He practiced on Thursday and Friday. He will start on Sunday against the Chiefs.

RB Earnest Graham
is probable with an ankle injury. He should start on Sunday.

RB Chris Henry
is out serving his suspension for the drug policy violation. He will be out for 4 games.

Redskins:
WR Santana Moss
has a heel injury and is probable to play on Sunday. It appears that he will play. He practiced Thursday and Friday.

WR James Thrash is questionable with a high ankle sprain. He is currently in a walking boot. He is expected to not need the walking boot later in the week. Thrash has limited fantasy potential and upside. This injury should not matter to anyone.

Texans:

The Weekly Thermometer- Week 11

This is a look at the fantasy temperature of who is hot, cold, and lukewarm. We will examine a few players in each temperature range each week.

The Counselor is IN:

Who is Hot?
WR Dwayne Bowe is red hot. Bowe is a rookie Wide Out for the Kansas City Cheifs. He has remained hot even though he has a new inexperienced QB. If it were not for Adrian Peterson, Bowe would be the rookie of the year.

WR Randy Moss is molten lava hot. He has brought his career out of the oblivion, known as Oakland, and reminds us why teams used to fear him. He continues to own defensivebacks and appears to score at will. He bails out Brady any time Brady is in trouble ("If Brady is in trouble, I am not slow, it is hip, body check, push off, and away I go!").

The Rams are hot right now. Since starting 0-8, they have changed things around and now have won their last two games. They appear to finally be getting some of their players healthy. Jackson is running the ball well. Bulger is finding Holt and Bruce. They will still be a top ten draft pick but they are playing their way out of the top 5.

Who is Lukewarm?

QB Vince Young is lukewarm. He can make plays with his legs. He is throwing the ball well. The problem is his receivers are dropping way too many passes.

QB Brodie Croyle is lukewarm. This is this not a bad thing for a QB making his first start in the NFL. At moments, he looked great for the Chiefs but at other moments he looked like a first time starter. He has a lot of potential.

QB Peyton Manning is lukewarm. He is playing as if his name was Eli. In fact Eli was much better than Peyton this week. Peyton misses Harrison a great deal. I am sure Peyton will heat up as the playoffs get closer.

Who is Cold?

K Adam Vinatieri is ice cold. He does not appear healthy. He is missing field goals that he could not in his sleep last year. This is having a huge negative impact on the Colts. He has been the man on the field with ice in his veins when trying to kick game winners. No longer does that ice run through his veins but rather in his play.

The Titans Receiving corp is ice cold. Vince Young made some great passes this week but most of them were dropped by the receivers. Doink, doink, doink! Don't throw it at their hands Vince, that is their weakness.

The Miami Dolphins continue to be sub-zero cold- closing in on absolute zero. They are 0-10. They have a great chance to make history and go 0-16. With the first pick in the draft the Miami Dolphins pick ...

SuperHero/Football Dream Team

The Counselor is IN:

My friend Greg sent me to an interesting website called the Spirit of Jake. He pointed to the great post The comic book heroes football dream team. He has a list of what comicbook characters make the Dream Team or Pro Bowl. It is a fun read and I suggest checking it out. I would love this to be my fantasy football team. Below is just a sample of this great article.

"OFFENSIVE LINE

Our squad employs the trendy zone-blocking scheme popularized by the Denver Broncos, so we’ve gone with a relatively undersized squad of Colossus, Juggernaut, Thor, Rhino, and The Thing. Still, these guys all pack a mean punch and suit their individual positions well. Colossus and the Thing line up at tackle, with the tall, long Ruskie manning the left side to handle the league’s most feared speed rushers and The Thing being your typical, right-side mauler. Juggernaut and Rhino are most effective on the move, so they play guard where they can run traps or pull (think of Lombardi’s old power sweeps). Thor gets the call in the middle. The Thing defines the unit with his gruff, blue-collar mentality." (S.o. Jake)

Things I have Learned... Colts vs Chiefs

Things I Have Learned... from Colts Vs Chiefs

The Counselor is IN:

1) Dwayne Bowe is a stud wide receiver in his rookie year. He continues to impress week after week. He made a monster TD catch in this game. He was playing with a new inexperienced QB.

2) Peyton Manning misses Harrison. He looked completely out of sorts even though the Chiefs' Defense is not dominate. His security blanket continues to be stuck on the sideline.

3) Brodie Croyle has potential. He looked really good at times against a solid Colts Defense. I still can not determine if he is the QB of the future for the Chiefs but I can see why the Chiefs are high on him.

4) Joseph Addai continues to be top tier runningback. He can run the ball and catch the ball out of the backfield with the best of runningbacks. Watching him spin and jump around to make more yardage is a blast to see. Without Addai, the Colts would have been sunk in this game.

5) K Adam Vinatieri appears to be injured. He is not kicking well at all. He is missing kicks that he could have made in his sleep last season. It has become a nightmare season for him. Even though he made the game winning field goal, he is a liability for the Colts at this time.

6) The Chiefs are not as bad as they have appeared. They are a team with a bunch of injuries and offensive line problems. Larry Johnson is out again. Earlier in the season, they looked terrible. They looked solid against the World Champs.

7) Priest Holmes still knows how to run the ball. He is not a fast or elusive as he was a few years ago but he still has good vision and knows how to hit a whole. He is a decent backup for a fantasy team.

8) One of the commentators stated " The Colts look like the entire team has the flu." I agree completely. They have not been the same team since the Pats beat them a few weeks ago.

Those are a few things I learned from the Colts vs. the Chiefs game.

Week11 Fantasy Injury Report

The Counselor is IN:

Here are the Week 11 fantasy injuries and my commentary.

Cardinals:
QB Kurt Warner
is probable with a left elbow. He practiced fully on Wednesday. He will start on Sunday.

Falcons:
RB Jerious Norwood is questionable with an ankle sprain. He was limited in practice on Wednesday. He expects to play on Sunday. He appears to be close to 100% back. He is still playing second fiddle to Dunn.

QB Bryon Leftwich has an ankle injury and is questionable. He will be a game time decision. With off weeks past us, there should not be a need to start Leftwich even when he is healthy.

WR Joe Horne is questionable with a hamstring injury. He missed a second day of practice on Thursday. He will be a game time decision. The signs are pointing to him missing Sunday's game. I would keep him on the bench.

Ravens:
TE Todd Heap
is questionable with a thigh injury. He did not practice on Thursday. Keep an eye on Heap and his health.

TE Daniel Wilcox has a sprained toe and is questionable. He did run wind sprints on Thursday. He is getting better but it appears that he will not play this weekend.

QB Steve McNair is out this week and out for the next couple of weeks with a partial dislocation in his left (non-throwing) shoulder. According to the Baltimore Sun, his time as QB for the Ravens appears to be coming to an end. It is yet to be determined if this means that the Boller era has began again.

Bills:
RB Marshawn Lynch is questionable with an ankle injury. He missed practiced all week. It looked like he might be back for this week's game against the Pats earlier in the week but the news keeps getting worse out of Buffalo. I would leave Lynch on the bench this weekend even if he plays.

Panthers:
QB Vinny Testaverde
is probable with an Achilles' tendon injury. He has been able to practice all week. This week's starter at QB has not been announced.

QB David Carr has a concussion. He is questionable. He has practiced all week. This week's starter has not been announced.

RB DeShaun Foster is probable with turf toe. He missed practice on Wednesday but practiced fully on Thursday. He should be fine for Sunday.

WR Steve Smith is questionable with a slight shin injury. He has missed practice all week. He will be a game time decision.

Bears:
QB Brian Griese
has a shoulder injury and is questionable for this week. Grossman has been announced as the starter for Week 11.

Bengals:
WR Chad Johnson is probable with knee injury. He sat out of practice on Thursday. He will play on Sunday.

Browns:
WR Joe Jurevicius
has a leg injury and is probable. He is expected to play this weekend.

Cowboys:

WR Isaiah Stanback is probable with a shoulder injury. He has practiced fully this week. Stanback has very limited fantasy value or potential.

Broncos:
RB Travis Henry is questionable with a partial tear of the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He was limited in practice on Thursday. He thinks he will play on Monday night. I would not count on it especially with Selvin Young playing well.

K Jason Elam is probable with a calf injury. Don't worry because Jason will play.

TE Tony Scheffler is probable with a chest injury.

WR Javon Walker is questionable with a knee injury. He ran in some pre-practice warm ups but did not practice on Wednesday. It is very unlikely that he will play on Monday night.

Lions:
QB Jon Kitna has an back strain and is probable. He was limited in practice on Wednesday. He will start against the Cardinals this weekend and should have a great weekend.

RB Kevin Jones is questionable with a foot injury. The Lions may hold him out on Sunday so he will be able to play on Thursday.

Packers:
TE Bubba Franks
is out with a knee injury. He will not play this week.

WR Koren Robinson is questionable with a knee injury. He missed practice on Wednesday.

WR Donald Lee has a rib injury and is probable. He practiced fully on Wednesday. He will play on Sunday.

Texans:
RB Ahman Green is probable with a knee injury. It appears that he will be in the lineup this weekend. At this point, playing Green is a risky move.

QB Matt Schaub and WR Andre Johnson are not on the injury list this week.

Colts:
WR Marvin Harrison is questionable with a knee injury. He did practice on Thursday. He remains a game time decision.

WR Anthony Gonzalez is questionable for this week with a hand injury. He also did not practice on Thursday. The Colts are getting thin at receiver.

TE Dallas Clark is questionable with a concussion. He practiced fully on Wednesday. He should be on the field on Sunday.

WR Bryan Fletcher has a calf injury and is probable. He was limited in practice on Wednesday.

Jaguars:
WR Ernest Willford is probable with a hip injury. He was limited in practice on Thursday.

K Josh Scobee has a quadriceps injury and is probable for this week. Find a different kicker for this weekend.

Chiefs:
RB Larry Johnson is out with a foot injury. The amount of his carries from the last 3 years have come back to haunt him.

QB Damon Huard is probable for Sunday. Huard will be on the bench and Brodie Croyle will be starting for the Chiefs. That is good news for the Colts.

Dolphins:
No significant fantasy injuries.

Vikings:
RB Adrian Peterson is out with a sprained right LCL. He should be back in a few weeks. There were a lot of fantasy owners relieved by the diagnosis rather than a torn ACL.

Saints:
RB Reggie Bush is questionable from a helmet to helmet hit. His coach believes he will be able to play on Sunday.

Patriots:
WR Wes Welker is questionable for Sunday's game. He was limited in practice on Friday. He will be a game time decision. I would not chance it unless you do not have a good alternative.

Giants:
WR Plaxico Burress is probable with an ankle injury. He has missed practice on Friday but he is expected to play on Sunday.

WR Steve Smith is questionable with a hamstring injury. His shoulder is finally healed but now he is struggling with a hamstring injury. He has missed some practice this week.

RB Derrick Ward is out with an ankle and groin injury. He will miss the game on Sunday.

Jets:
WR Laveranues Coles had a concussion and remains probable for Sunday. He practiced all week.

Raiders:
WR Jerry Porter is probable with a quadriceps strain. He was limited in practice on Thursday.
QB Josh McCown is questionable with a thigh injury. He missed practice on Thursday.

Eagles:
RB Brian Westbrook is questionable with a knee injury. He missed practice on Friday. Coach Reid believes Westbrook will play.

Steelers:
RB Willie Parker is probable with a knee injury. He fully participated in practice on Thursday.

Chargers:
WR Vincent Jackson is probable with a abdomen strain. He was limited in practice on Thursday.

Seahawks:
WR Deion Branch
is probable with a foot injury. He is expected to play on Sunday.

RB Shaun Alexander is out with a multiple injuries of wrist, ankle, and knee. He will not play on Sunday.

49ers:
RB Frank Gore is probable with an ankle injury. He was limited in practice on Wednesday. The odds are good that he will start on Sunday.

QB Alex Smith has a forearm injury and is questionable. Trent Dilfer will start this week for the 49ers. If you are starting a 49ers QB, your fantasy season is over.

Rams:
WR
Dante Hall
is questionable with an ankle injury. He practiced fully all week.

WR Isaac Bruce is probable with a hamstring injury. He practiced fully on Friday.
WR Torry Holt is probable with a knee injury. He practiced fully on Thursday. Both star receivers should play this weekend.

Buccaneers:

RB Earnest Graham is questionable with an ankle injury. He was limited in practice on Friday.

RB Michael Pittman is questionable with an ankle injury. He was limited in practice on Thursday. He is attempting to make his way back this year. I would wait to see how effective he will be when he plays before starting him.

TE Alex Smith also has an ankle injury that is making him questionable for Sunday. He was limited in practice on Thursday.

WR Michael Clayton is questionable with an ankle injury. He was limited in practice on Thursday. How many players on one team can be questionable with ankle injuries.

WR Ike Hilliard is probable with a calf injury. He practiced fully on Thursday.

Titans:
RB Lendale White
is probable with a toe injury. He fully practiced all week.

Redskins:
WR Antwaan Randle El is probable with a hamstring injury. He missed practice on Friday but it expected to play on Sunday.

WR Santana Moss has a heel injury and is probable to play on Sunday. It appears that he will play. He usually has a great game against my Cowboys.

WR James Thrash is out with a high ankle sprain. Thrash has limited fantasy potential and upside. This injury should not matter to anyone.

That is all the fantasy injuries for this week.

Things I Have Learned... from Boys Vs G-Men

Things I Have Learned... from Boys Vs G-Men

The Counselor is IN:

1) Tony Romo is a phenomenal scrambling Quarterback with excellent instincts. He made an amazing move to duck out of a tackle and then throw the ball to the end zone on their first touchdown drive.

2) Jeremy Shockey continues to be a top level Tight End. He tore up the Cowboy Defense in the first half. He is a top level fantasy Tight End.

3) The Cowboys Offensive Line is developing into dominate pass protection. They had great protection against a tough New York rush defense. The line does sometimes struggle with run blocking against good defenses.

4) Eli Manning is still a work in progress. The fist half of the game he looked fabulous. In the second half Eli did not look like he had a clue. How many delays of game did he have in the second half at his own stadium? He did have another schizophrenic game.

5) The Cowboys are one of the best teams in the NFL. No matter what the talking heads think about the NFC and their bias, the Boys are playing good enough to win the Superbowl.

Those are a few things I learned from the Boys Vs G-Men game.

The Weekly Thermometer- 11-07-07

This is a new weekly column. It will take the fantasy temperature of who is hot, cold, and lukewarm. We will examine a few players in each temperature range.

The Counselor is IN:

Who is Hot?
QB Brett Favre is hot. This season reminds me of Brett in his prime. He is having fun and making plays. His receivers are developing nicely. Last week, he had 24 completions for 34 attempts with 360 yards. He had a monstrous 70.6 completion percentage. He may not put up the Brady numbers or even Romo or Manning numbers but he has gone from a fantasy bench warmer to a top level fantasy starter.

RB Adrian Peterson is red hot. It would be almost impossible to not realize this with all the Peterson coverage since this weekend. He broke the single game rushing record in his eighth game as a pro. He rushed 30 times for 296 yards and three touchdowns. He started the season as the backup to Chester Taylor. The Vikings got a steal with this draft pick. I wonder if the 6 teams before the Vikings regret passing on All Day Peterson. I know I am glad I drafted him in two of my fantasy leagues and regret not getting in the third one.

WR Terrell Owens is having another great season. Against his former team, the Eagles, he had a phenomenal game with 10 catches for 174 yards. He continues to block as well as receive. All of this and he continues to keep his attitude in check.

Who is Lukewarm?

WR Reggie Wayne had a very lukewarm week. With Harrison out, Wayne is seeing a lot of double teams. He had a meager 62 yards. He was a 3rd to 4th round pick for many teams. The Patriots did a good job of limiting him. Until Harrison is back in the line up, Wayne may remain lukewarm.

QB Philip Rivers continues to be mediocre. He had a great year last year but has not been able to reproduce it this year. Sunday he was 19 for 42 with 197 yards.

RB Brian Westbrook has been lukewarm all year long. He was a first round to early second round pick in most fantasy leagues. He has not been bad but is not performing to his expected level.

Who is Cold?

WR Steve Smith has been icy cold of late. He does not have a Quarterback to throw him the ball. It is a disadvantage of being a wideout.

Green Bay Running backs are icy cold. If they do not get on track, it will be interesting winter in Green Bay. They need to find a running back that can get the Packers consistent yards.

RB Thomas Jones is cold. He has been cold much of this season. The trade to the Jets from the Jets has not worked out well for either team.

Things I Have Learned... from Pats v Colts

This is a new weekly segment entitled: Things I Have Learned... I will give some insight from a game during the previous week.

The Counselor is IN:

1) New England is the best team in the NFL ... for now. Most people will be quick to state that this is a no brainer. I had been holding out to name the best team until one of these juggernauts lost. Now we know who the best is. This could change with 8 more weeks left in the season. By the end of week 17 it could be the Patriots or the Colts, or the Cowboys, or the Packers, or the Giants, or the Lions, or any number of teams. It will not be the Rams or the Dolphins.

2) A good running game can help equalize the Patriots. The Colts ran the ball well in the first half and made the Patriots defense look slow. Addai not only ran well but also caught the ball out of the backfield well. The Cowboys also did this to an extent but did not utilize it as well.

3) Tom Brady does not perform well when being hit in the mouth. When the Colts Defense was able to pressure Brady, he did make mistakes and appeared to be unsure of himself on a few plays after being hit hard.

4) Randy Moss is a monster of a receiver and could catch the ball with one hand while being tortured by Jack Bauer (24 reference). Even when Brady made bad passes, Moss was there to bail him out. Moss is back and was by far the best off season pickup by any team.

5) The Colts miss Harrison. Marvin may be getting up there in age but the Colts need him back. The Patriots were able to limit Wayne and Clark because there was no Harrison for them to worry about. I honestly believe this game would have ended very differently if Harrison had been healthy because the Patriots could not have covered all three of these receivers.

6) How false the misconception is that "No one can slow down the Patriots!" They only scored 24 points this week. The Patriots are a great team. But they can be slowed down. Teams will need to examine what the Colts did not Offense and Defense to copy the formula on slowing down this recorded paced offense.

7) Patriots still need a running game. Maroney is still coming back from injury and he looked fairly good when he got the ball. This team does not seem concerned with developing its running game. Cold weather is coming and a running games helps win game in December and January. If they do not start developing a running game now, they may have attempt winning in a cold climate with passing only. This is the same problem that the Packers have.

Those are a few things I learned from the Pats v Colts game.

Notre Dame gives game to Navy

With 50 seconds left in the game, Notre Dame could have attempted a 40 yard field goal to go ahead. They decided to go for it on 4th and 7. They were sacked and the game went to over time. In the third overtime, Navy scored a touchdown and a 2 point conversion. The Irish scored a touchdown but could not convert on the 2 point conversion. 46 to 44 was the final score. This ended the Notre Dame streak of 43 straight victories over Navy. Congratuations Navy. The Irish still have only won 1 game this season.

The Romo Conspiracy

The following is not a fantasy article but fan fiction.

The following story is pure fan-fiction, not to be taken as factual. It is a spoof comedy piece. This is not an attack on any of the individuals in the story. This was spurred on by Tony Romo being seen with Britney Spears during his off week.

On Monday of week 8 of the 2007 Season, in their evil headquarters somewhere in a swap meets a rogue band of NFL Owners. Daniel Snyder, owner of the vile Redskins, called the meeting order. The meeting included other shady owners: Jeffrey Lurie of the Eagles; and John Mara and Steve Tisch owners of the Giants. Their meeting was for one sinister reason, to find a way to stop Tony Romo from beating them.

As they pondered how they might be able to slow down Romo so their teams will still have a chance to win the NFC East, the brainstorming ideas were all over the map. One of Lurie's henchmen quickly entered the room and brought him important information. After much trolling of the internet, they have might have found what they were looking for.

Jeff Lurie announced the rest of the group in a spooky gruff voice, "We have found Romo's weakness." This appeared to delight the room. John Mara exclaimed with excitement, "Tell me boy what can we ..." The sentenced was finished by his twin owner Steve Tisch, "… use to stop this offensive weapon of the Boys!" Snyder, the mastermind of this evil group sat back in his chair rubbing his chin patiently awaiting the good news. Lurie spoke slowly in his gruff tone, "It appears that Romo has an obsession with Britney Spears and her panty-less pictures. He has been downloading these photos continually during his off time."

Snyder had a disappointed look on his face. He quickly lashed out at Lurie, "How can this help us! Lots of red-blooded America men download those photos. This is pointless."

Lurie responded with an vile grin. "You don't understand. This does give us a huge edge. Britney is one of our Eagle skanky Fem-bots. She is a robot that we use to seduce various Free Agents to come to the Eagles. If they decide not to come, she leaves them with a very special VD. It is untreatable without our antidote. It causes severe pain to the player where they can not focus on the game. It will turn great players into below average players if not treated. All we have to do is to get Romo to go out with Britney on the off week and we will have him!" He exclaimed. Then he followed it up with a sinister laugh Oh, ha, ha, ha! The other members followed with their own sinister laughs. The plan was to be put into immediate action with Britney calling Romo.

The bands of villainous owners met the next week. They were all pleased with the results. Entertainment television was reporting that Tony was seen with Britney over the weekend. Their plan had taken affect. If Britney had followed her programming, she would have slept with Romo and infected him. Romo was reporting that he was just friends with Britney but that would be inconceivable to believe.

As they watched the reports on the Cowboys practice, they were disappointed. There was no mention of Romo playing poorly or being in pain. Maybe Jerry Jones was just protecting his new multi-million dollar investment by not reporting it. Lurie was confident that his fem-bot had delivered the VD and that they would beat the Cowboys on Sunday. At this point, all that the rogue band could do was waiting until Sunday's game to see if they had found Romo's weakness.
