Walsh to testify about Patriots Taping procedures

Matt Walsh, the former video assistant with the New England Patriots, has agreed to discuss the Patriots taping producers with Commissioner Goodell on May 13. He has agreed to turn over any video to support his potential allegations.

The agreement also requires Mr. Walsh to return any tapes and other items in his possession that belong to the Patriots. In return, the NFL and the Patriots have promised not to sue Mr. Walsh. They also will indemnify him for any expenses, including legal fees that he incurs in connection with the interview. (ESPN)

I am not sure if Commissioner Goodell is investigating this further because he believes there might be more to the story than what he was told or if he is doing this to keep congress off of his back. Senator Specter did blister the Commissioner for destroying evidence. Specter also has stated that he wished he could have seen the tapes.

Either way this story is not going away until Walsh testifies and presents evidence before Goodell. Even then, Congress could do their own investigation. What happens if there is support for the rumors of taping of the Rams final practice before the Super Bowl? Could the Patriots or Bill Belichick receive more discipline than the slap on the wrist from the Jets taping? What if the Patriots have been cheating for years and using it in games? We will have to wait and see.

With all the steroid hoopla surrounding Roger Clemens and Congress, it has caused me to ponder the greater issue of cheating in sports. In this country, we appear to have a double standard with cheating. Sometimes we become passionately and aggressively against it. Other times, we are happy to turn a blind eye to it and even embrace it.

The steroid use in baseball has been a huge issue. We had records being broken by men who used performance enhancing drugs. The outcry has been intense against players that are caught in steroids. Barry Bonds has not been found guilty but we (as a society) treat him with disdain for what we think he has done. Mark "Big Mac" McGuire went from super star and first ballot Hall Of Famer to a man that does not have a chance to make the Hall of Fame because of assumed steroid use.

The Major League Baseball Hall of Fame has a ton of known cheaters. Some pitchers used files, Vaseline, and pine tar to give them an edge. There are Hall of Fame players that have used corked bats. Yet there were no Congressional Hearings on these practices?

People seem alright with players in the NFL to sit out a hand full of games because of steroid use. LB Shawne Merriman is a perfect example of this. They caught him dead to rights but yet we were happy with his mild suspension. Why is there not the same outcry as with baseball and steroids?

Another example is the SpyGate Scandal. This was swept under the rug and the team was given a slap on the hand. They did not even forfeit the game that they were caught cheating in. There are some suspicions of them filming the Rams' practice the day before the Super Bowl when New England upset St. Louis. If you try to point these scandals out, many people will dismiss you as a hater and will not give you any creditability. But wasn't SpyGate still cheating? Where is the uproar?

I find it fascinating that we want to rail against some players that we have no evidence of wrong behavior but yet we embrace other players and coaches that are caught red handed.

It is time for me to give the Patriots their due.

Several weeks ago the talking heads started declaring the Patriots the greatest team ever. There were discussions of a 19-0 season. I lambasted the commentators for crowning the Patriots before half the season was over.

Now the Patriots are 13-0. They have had a few close games but have always came out on top. They are the only team to beat my Cowboys. I give the Patriots my respect and honor. They are the best team in football at this time. I hope they meet up with my Cowboys in the Superbowl and give my Boys a chance to pay them back with a loss.

After watching the Patriots' Houdini act to escape last night against the Ravens and keep their quest for a perfect season alive, it's reasonable to ask: What in the world does a team have to do to beat New England? Stab a wooden stake through its collective heart? Fortunately, the 10 Spot has the answers. Here are the top 10 things it will take for the Patriots to lose:

8. An act of God, and by "God" we obviously mean Brett Favre

Commentators crown Patriots 7 games in!

The Counselor is IN:

Here we are in week 7 of the season. We are not even half way through the season. The Patriots remain undefeated by squashing the Dolphins. I am hearing commentators on the various networks discussing the Patriots going 19-0.

(In my best bad commentator voice) "The 72 Dolphins are nervous!" Are you kidding me? There are 9 more regular season games left for the Patriots. Then the Patriots would have to win every game in the post season including the Super Bowl.

The Patriots still have to play the undefeated world champion Colts. The Colts should be the team to beat instead of the Patriots. More than likely the Patriots would have to play the Colts again in the Playoffs. The Patriots are loaded with talent this year but so are the Colts yet many commentators are discounting the Colts.

This post is no slam on the Patriots. They outplayed my Cowboys last week. Tom Brady has been a monster and is having an unbelievable year. They are a great team. Their coaching staff is superior. But during this long season, it will be difficult to go undefeated.

Message for the Commentators , If the Patriots are still undefeated December, then you can start talking about the 72 Dolphins. Until then, (as Mike and Mike would say) just shut up!
